This time I'm gonna try for an MS date set.. that of course puts at least 2 coins well out of my present financial reach, but with a lil luck I might just be able to land those ugly key dates in a few months (if things go right lol)
For now I decided to start off easy with a nice 1883o Vam 36a In MS 63... Not a bad grab for a 50 :D as you can see a nice eye catcher with that cartwheel effect :D
Decided to start on a new MS morgan date set....

Re: Decided to start on a new MS morgan date set....
Nice coin and nice deal. NGC shows a value for a regular 83 O in MS60 of $57 and yours is MS63 and VAM36a. When you said you wanted an MS set, does that mean minimum of MS60 or some higher MS number? The cartwheel effect, would that make the coin PL or not? BTW, $50 is a far cry from the $140K NGC value for the 93 S mint MS60. The 92 S and 93 S are on my list of things to get right after I hit the lotto.Mrweaseluv wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 2:44 pm This time I'm gonna try for an MS date set.. that of course puts at least 2 coins well out of my present financial reach, but with a lil luck I might just be able to land those ugly key dates in a few months (if things go right lol)

Re: Decided to start on a new MS morgan date set....
That's the nice part about A "date" set... One for each year instead of 3-4 it lets you swerve away from the 93 s at 140k and fill that date with a 93 P which is only about $650 at MS60... the 93 and 95 being the 2 "uglies" i mentioned above there are a few other "uglies" but generaly easily avoided with a different mint mark. The 93 and 95 stay ugly in all MMs (but 650 beats the blazes outta 140k lol) :D. specificaly I am filling a dansco 7171 date book 1878-1904 +1921 1 hole each and 4 holes 1 for each mint mark CC, O, D and S (no space for the P-no mint mark) As for the cartwheel effect it is "required" to get PL or DMPL but is not uncommon on lesser MS coins that for some other reasons don't quite get the PL DMPL grade. Looking at this coin specific, I think the fields are just a bit too frosty rather then mirror like, it still gets the effect but doesn't quailify for PL because of lack of mirror finish...
