1971 Ike proof Peg Leg?

#1 Unread post by Jerseyb »

Hi, I'm new here and I'm looking for some insight on this coin. It looks like what would be a peg leg on the "R". But the bottom of the letters B and E are also pretty washed out. Is this just a normal run of the mill or do I potentially have something a little more rare? Thanks

What you are seeing here is the continuum of fade from proof re-treatments.

As to the "Collectibility and Value", you will need to do some research.

Paul, thanks for the reply. I've looked all over online. Ike group has an extensive article on peg leg varieties but I haven't seen anything that resembles my coin. I will look into the continuum that you speak of.

They don't all look a like and there's stages to the Peg Leg, just need it in a holder as a peg leg to mean anything.
