Hope these are better. I wonder if someone was just practicing silver plating.

These are not plated to coins to begin with, they're clad in copper and manganese. Without better images I can't be sure what's wrong with your coin but it looks plated post mint.

Thanks Daniel I'm thinking this coin is some how plated post mint I've looked at it under a small microscope but I'm not seasoned enough to know how to tell. I can't get any better pics. I guess I just need to send it to someone.

Before you send off to someone you should get the weight of the coin. If normal I would not send it to anyone. JMO

I see these floating around eBay every once in a while - I usually just stay away from them - either way - they're not selling for much.

Hope this helps

I don't know if they're fake or real - My guess was they were either fake or plated - But they're not selling for much either way so was just thinking that the coin in question is probably not worth sending off since it's not going to be worth the effort - but again just my thought on it.

They're not a US Mint product at all.

I was suspecting that they were faked Silver Dollars because of the amount of similar coins that was shown on Ebay (And right now, Silver is EXPENSIVE!), but if it's only one coin that has that out of all of those normally , it's a plating error . . .

Here's what it should look like, from PCGS.com

Since the mint does not plate Sac dollars, and the planchets are not plated planchets, it cannot be a plating error. Post mint damage.

Thanks guys for all your input. Like I said it came from a bank roll of coins so it was a little surprising to find and being a Newby at collecting I had delusions of grandeur. Thanks again for all your input. I have to say though whoever plated it did an awesome job the details are very good.

We all are excited about coins or we would not be in this hobby. As we accumulate more experience, the excitement stays, but gets refined by education. Good for you on looking for answers and realizing education is the key :)

Been there, done that. Chemistry class with my students. Even nickel plating takes relatively little effort, salt, vinegar, nickel, and a 6 volt power supply.

I have a book aimed at teens from the 50s that had home experiments such as this included. Oh...for the good old days of personal responsibility, common sense, and no need of nannies 😜
