Peace dollar question....

#1 Unread post by typeviic »

Here is a 1923, MS64 Peace dollar in an old ANACS "motel soap" holder. The label reads "DBL DIE REV".
Question: Is there such a thing as a DDR that is NOT a VAM?, or is it a VAM and they did not put the VAM ID (VAM 3 for example) on the label for some reason?

It's a vam and use vamworld.com to see which one. All Peace Dollars are VAMs

First: I agree with Daniel's statement.
Second: I see a misconception about the grading companies that is important to understand so you don't lose money over them sometime.
Grading companies only assign a grade to a coin. They are not "THE Exalted Grand Poohbahs" (you get the idea 😋) of the coin hobby that people readily mistake them for b/c the masses see a lot of slabs for sale and make unfortunate (and costly) assumptions.

They will not assign a variety, VAM etc. unless asked (and well paid for concerning how little the few letters of ink on the label cost them). And a person sending in a coin for an attribution such as this also needs to check ahead of time to see if the company they are sending the coin to actually will include that attribution on the label or not. Some recognize attributions others do not.

And on top of all that, their reputation for attributions is, should we say, much less than stellar? Which is very sad as it costs collectors thousands of dollars sometimes (more often than thought - check the links in my signature for a real eye opener).
Common grading company shortcomings & resulting co$tly mi$take$ to collectors (using Kennedy No FG halves):
