1936 S Wheat Penny Error on reverse - extra wheat
I have a 1936 S Wheat penny that i am not sure what is going on with it. It has a 3rd wheat leaf struck and some extra letters struck on the reverse. If anyone could please tell me what might have happened to cause this I would greatly appreciate it. thanks in advance.

I see a lot of damage and I do see what your talking about . The only thing I can figure is someone tried what's called a Vise Job ( two coins sandwiched together in a vise ) . Just my honest opinion ( JMHO) .

Might be damage, but the extra wheat leaves are making me think it may not bebeckmon1950 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 10:47 pm I have a 1936 S Wheat penny that i am not sure what is going on with it. Re: 1936 S Wheat Penny Error on reverse - extra wheat
I see what you may be referring to as extra wheat leaves. While these could coincidental looking damage marks, they also could be where another coin was put on this one and either squeezed in a vise or hammered. There is nothing on this coin that could have happened during the minting process. It is PMD or post mint damage.

I can see the mirror image of the "UM" in UNUM, as well as the rim of the coin that has been impressed into this one

There's no extra wheat, that's part of the damage.

I agree 100%. Nothing but Damage. You could not get that type damage from the mint. Research the minting process.

I thank everyone who took the time to look at the coin and give an opinion. I agree with the consensus, it is just damaged. And with that I just tossed it into the the scrap copper can.
Thanks again to everyone!
