2014 Dime die error completely misshapen with chunks of design missing or post damage?

#1 Unread post by lovey881188 »

Hi,

Thank you so much for helping I was wondering if this damage was caused at the mint during production or after. The most intriguing detail is that in some areas aspects of the design are completely missing...it seems this would be difficult to achieve post-production. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!Image

Good grief! It looked like it was in a parking lot & was shredded by the tires being grinded on the ground . . .

Looks like the dime fell out of someone's pocket during the wash during a washer/dryer cycle . I have had coins that that has been done to before and look similar to that but not that bad, think it had a couple of wash cycles.

From a long time coin collector with laundromat owenrship being a big part of his past family history:

I don't believe think this is a "dryer coin." If this kind of damage could occur inside the tub, think of what the inside of the tub would do to the clothes!

And if the coin was legitimately dug out from between the tubs (where dryer coins are made), then it would look like one of the following:
