Thank you for commenting. This coin was in a proof set. When I was asked to take a pic not in its case I removed it. How could it have been replated?

I don't believe this is a "Proof Set".....
I see circulated coins in this collection.

What do you think of the penny? Thanks for your comments. I am new to this and learning the terms.
That makes sense because they are circulated. What then are these packaged sets called?

Hi N, that's not a proof set, it's a marketing set, these things are put together to market to specific demographics, this is the same concept of aftermarket birthday sets. You can get birth sets from the mint, but the aftermarket has horned in to this. Your cent is more than likely Nickle plated, they polish it and then plate it, you can even do this at home with such a small object. Sorry to burst your bubble, I thought is was something, because of the A leg illusion. This is what makes grading coins from an image so hard. Anyway Keep searching.

1943 steel cents where not released in proof sets, the coin was in a made up set, and why they replated a damaged coin.

BTW - just for your info. The grading companies do not offer a "what is this damage" opinion. You would have wasted your money sending it in for them to tell you it was damaged. Glad you asked here first :)
