Old coin With a hole drilled into it hurt it’s value?

#1 Unread post by Philrs4 »

Hi,

I have a 1812 Capped Bust Half Dollar with a nice size hole drilled into it. I found this old coin with my metal detector a couple of summer ago. I was wondering if an old coins with holes drilled out have any real value to it. Or the coin’s worth is in it’s melt value. Thank you in advance for any input.

Hello -- I have one of those as well. Mine is in rather better condition and the hole is smaller. I believe that it has good value, as does yours from the research that I've done lately. Lovely coin to this very old novice . . . even with the holes. But forget about $600, unfortunately!
