On the Hunt for Franklin Half Dollars

I'm new to this hobby and found an old Franklin Half Dollar folder that my Grandmother had. I figured that I would carry on her work and fill it up. She only had one in there so it looks like I've got my work cut out for me! haha My question to the group is; what are my options in searching for thes...

1880 P Morgan Dollar AU58 or higher?

Hey Folks,

Got the 1880P last night. Looks to be AU58 or MS60+ range. Very difficult to tell the differences between AU58 to say MS60. I've attached the obverse and reverse for your viewing. The rim is not damage as well. Love to hear you thoughts on what you think the grade might be.

Thanks

Tom

Re: 1880 P Morgan Dollar AU58 or higher?

Using a single desk lamp in my dark room I can see the cartwheel throughout the coin. Grading is an art from what I am learning. You folks real know your stuff and have seen a lot of these coin. I did buy a scale as well to ensure the coin comes in around 26.73 grams. I is a lot of fun and exciting!...

Re: 1880 P Morgan Dollar AU58 or higher?

The coin would make MS and I recommend buying already graded examples to compare and buy a Coin World Making The Grade Book.

Re: Olathe Dollar Hoard

There is a small premium, but it has waned over the years, but they always have an initial premium from the original seller. Just not the same as the Binion Hoard, look that up for a good read.

Re: 1928 S Mercury Dime ( Full Bands )

The coin is circulated and cleaned. Did you look up values for a circulated example before thinking of sending it off?

Re: Does Patina Affect Grade Negatively?

A modern clad business strike graded MS65 is actually pretty good. Even uncirculated, these coins are in rolls, bank bags, and get marked up pretty good, even before they go into circulation. Rarely, an MS66 and MS67 will show up. I, personally, have never seen anything higher than that. The only &q...

Re: 1946-S Walking Liberty Half

While this looks to be a nice coin, no one can predict what a grading company will put on the slab. :( Please read and understand the following - it is well worth your time for the few minutes it will take: Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for life. Here is some b...

Re: 1946-S Walking Liberty Half

In addition to Earle's information, this community is not to help you grade ungraded coins for you to purchase. We can't tell you a MS point grade based on images alone. You should be asking the seller what they think since they have the coin in hand.

Re: Ike Dollar PCGS submission question

Update. I got the coin back and I'm quite pleased with the results. Take a look. I pulled this from the bank about a year ago.

Re: Ike Dollar PCGS submission question

Now that's a nice Ike! One of my favorite series for honoring a true American president, for honoring the moon landing, and for the little "easter eggs" Frank Gasparro is said to have put on them. He is said to have put a re-rentry trail for the Apollo 13 rocket above the moon at the 10:00...

Did the seller specifically state that this was a "Struck Thru"?
