Congrats on getting it re-holdered to verify it's real.
I've heard that having the coin unsecured was part of the problem with how they did it originally. It was susceptible to human greed. New owners/buyers wanted peace of mind and this method didn't really provide that.

I agree the damage to this coin is more environmental rather than circulation.
An acidic environment can eat away at all 3 surfaces of a coin, especially copper.

It is a nice one for a roll find. Others can give you better direction about whether the obverse abrasion will get you a "details' grade if you send it in. One image doesn't make it easy to tell if there is slight wear on the higher parts of the design. Since it was found in a roll there's a hi...

I tend to agree with everyone but .... the glare is messing with my eyes/perception/reality. LOL Part of it looks like damage and part looks like a die issue. Re: 1959 Lincoln Memorial Cent - Plain Obverse, Totally Obliterated Reverse? Weird Coin
Nice coin. Did you find it in change? I agree it is struck through a capped die (late stage). Usually, the obverse die is the one that gets capped, but with your coin, it is the reverse die that got capped, probably by an un-ejected coin. Three dies are involved in the minting of coins. The hammer d...
