Albums That Won't Damage or Tone Coins

#1 Unread post by jeffreywturner »

There are albums which advertise as "low sulfur" so they won't cause tarnish or toning of coins over time. However, "low sulfur" is not the same as "no sulfur." Are there any albums which have zero sulfur and will not cause any sort of toning or tarnish no matter how long my coins are in them? I want my silver and copper proof coins to look like the day I got them from the mint forever with absolutely zero tarnish or toning or milkspots. I know the mint packaging/lenses do not work perfectly for this purpose because I bought some coins from the mint only about 10 years ago and never removed them, yet they are already showing toning and/or milkspots. If there are no "perfect" display albums for this purpose, please tell me the closest thing to perfect. All recommendations are appreciated. Thank you.

Milk Toning is residue left over from the minting process that only appears on the surface at a later date no matter what the coins are in. the environment and humidity (your storage) might be more important then a zero sulfur album. no 100% toning proof method as depending on whats in a coin and on the surface of the coin decides its reaction with oxygen. maybe a custom made vacuum chamber? you could probable have one made for about $250,000.

I wish Whitman or Dansco would make a bookshelf style album with really thick pages to accommodate air-tites. I really don't care for the plastic monstrosities that have recently rolled out.

I'm no scientist, but given the choice between "direct fit" and "ring type", I would have to surmise that the rings provide and added seal to the holder. ? At the least, for the copper coins!

That's kinda what I was thinking - an album that you could just stick the air-tites in. And I think the pages themselves would have to be plastic, because cardboard can cause tarnish by merely being "close" to the coin surface without even touching it. Unfortunately I haven't seen or heard of such a thing.
