1881 s Morgan Obverse Date positioning Question

#1 Unread post by Soaru678 »

More a curiosity than anything. My question is: I have three 1881 s Morgans which are slabbed. While examining them I noticed the position of the date varied between them. Is this normal for most Morgan dollars to have the dates vary in position? I am including a photo overlay of the same scale of all three. You can see the difference of each of these.

I used the point of the neck and 1 for reference.

Yes, it's normal but it means they're struck with different obverse dies. You can check those out at vam world website.
