2009 ASE BU extra thick?

#1 Unread post by 54M »

So, I’ve got this 20 coin stack of 2009 bullion ASE’s and noticed how much thicker they are when I mixed up the container lids and noticed it wouldn’t fit right. See the thickness difference between it and a 1987. I’ve also checked it against a 2014 & 2015 and it’s the same.

I just thought this was odd. Aren’t coins supposed to be exact? Are there normal tolerance variables between years? Was there something different with the 2009 bullion that is already common knowledge?

Also, the weight is spot on and no difference between the other bullion dates I have. They are more visibly beautiful than the other dates I have but I can’t point to anything concrete that makes them seem fake to me.

I bought them from a reputable dealer and hadn’t suspected anything when I purchased them until I noticed this much later. I should probably call them next week.

I’ve run a Ping test analyzing application with my phone and they passed 100% along with the others except the 1987’s were just a little bit off but still within the passing parameter.

Is there any other at home test I should try or is this something that I shouldn’t even worry about?

Thanks 🙏

P.s. should I post more pictures so you all can analyze the strike in more detail? Okay 👍🏻
