1943 Steel cent with two gouges in the reverse
I was coin roll hunting wheat penny's and I found a 1943 steel cent in AU condition but the reverse has two gauges in it. I am very new at coin collecting and my question is is it a error or damage. I took the best photos I could.

Agree with Paul.
Looking through the fuzz, if the gouges you're referring to are above and below the left wheat stalk, I believe I see them. But there's not enough detail in the picture. It's an otherwise great looking coin!

Re: 1943 Steel cent with two gouges in the reverse
For your information
When posting photos of a coin you would like someone to look at, you should post a photo of both the full Obverse and Reverse. Try to take these photos as clear and close as possible. It would be extremely helpful if you would crop these photos. Next take some photos of the area in question again as close and clear as possible. It would also help if you could find some way to point to the area in question or give a detailed explanation of what you want to be looked at. If you need a photo editing program, there are three free ones that come to mind. They are PhotoScape, Inkscape and Gimp. Of the three PhotoScape is the easiest to use. Daniel explains quite well in the following topics, posting photos plus Daniels Video on posting coins

Re: 1943 Steel cent with two gouges in the reverse
You have already had recommendations on giving us better pics to work with.
But the pics you did post show a color I highly suspect show the penny was plated to make it shiny.
Why? One possibility: This was a common practice for steel cents years ago when banks and other businesses would give out these pennies as promo items (usually in sets with other cleaned/plated coins). "Coins of Yesteryear" was a set I remember getting when I was a kid. All the coins were plated to make them shiny (and ruined any collector value they had as well).
I hope better pic will prove me wrong about this.
