Hello,
I am looking for a few answers on getting coins graded.
I have submitted about 9 or 10 coins for grading through PCGS and have received them back.
They have given mostly low grades even on some nice coins as well as about half of them being obvious double dye, yet they return with just a grade.
Am I missing something on trying to get them looked at and classified as a ddo or ddr?
Some which are even missing lettering all together, yet no mention of it on report or casing.
Others even possibly discovery coins.

1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). Re: Getting coin’s graded
In general missing letters are not errors nor do they bring any premium. A lot of or all missing letters/numbers are nothing more then circulation wear or possible struck through grease (no premium on the latter either). As far as Doubled Dies' (it is not Doubled Dye but Doubled Die), you possible may have mistaken Machine Doubling or Die Deterioration for a Doubled Die. No one here can answer your Doubled Die question accurately as you have not posted any photos to look at.

Re: Getting coin’s graded
PCGS doesn't label every doubled die, you must check their price guide and see if they have it listed. Also, unless you're really good at grading, and it doesn't matter how nice your coin looks to you, PCGS will disappoint you most of the time. You can waist a lot of money learning something we can teach you for free.

Re: Getting coin’s graded
Welcome!
Unfortunately you did not come here first as we could have helped you a bit with this.
If the company sent back what you call "nice" coins with lower grades, it is b/c coin grades do not rely upon what looks shiny, but they are assigned by how much wear is present on the coin. The more wear, the less the grade is, and the less value to a collector.
I cannot guarantee it, but I also have a feeling, saying you had that many doubled dies, and it being your first time, that you are mistaking worthless machine and/or die deterioration doubling for a real doubled die. Please search on this forum for machine doubling. Also spend some time at error-ref.com, varietyvista.com, and CONECAonline.org to find out what to actually look for that are considered collectable errors. Like anything esle worth learning, its going to take some time.
When searching coins, don;t randomly go hoping to find something by just randomly examining everything on a coin. Instead, sort the coins by date and then go to one of those sites and find what are KNOWN errors. After awhile of spending time with known errors, you will:
1. Find its not going to be very common at all to find something unknown (very, very rare with all but new issues).
2. KNOW what a legitimate error looks like and be able to realize when something is legit or not.

I hope you do not mind me assuming you are new to the hobby, b/c some of the things you mention are typical to what we have newbies ask all the time.Am I missing something on trying to get them looked at and classified as a ddo or ddr?

Coin companies only grade coins. They do not examine them to find if there is a doubled die or some other variety. Unless YOU, as the submitter, specifically tell them you want them to label a coin as a doubled die (or any other error you believe you have), you won't see that on the label b/c their job is only to grade coins. The graders are not paid to examine and find errors. It is not what they are there for. And...I may as well add...asking them to take the extra step and identify/verify the error will for each one (plus they have a lousy track record anyway).as well as about half of them being obvious double dye, yet they return with just a grade.
