I am bizarrely happy with this 1909-S V.D.B. Lincoln cent!

How long did you need to spot it as counterfeit?

From China.

No, I ain't putting a real one in my folder! But I do plan to transfer the whole set, started by my great grandmother, to a Dansco album, if I can find one for under $100.00!

The 3rd album is mine. All from circulation!

Why is it a counterfeit?

In person, you can tell that it's been cast, and not struck. But, moreover, because that's what I ordered off the internet.

The cartwheel luster with the VF/XF features is also a tip-off. Doesn't match. The color is surprisingly good. I'm guessing they did use 100% copper, and not an alloy. They even included a slight finger print!

I am scared to see what unfolds now with the invention of 3-D printers.

One second lol. You find an authentic example like PCGS price guide and compare them side by side. If you have the coin in your hand the S mint mark will have a dot die mark in it, and without that it is fake.

Or watch my video

........... just my $0.02 here

Over the years I have found the more information that is posted, concerning counterfeit coinage, the better they get at it.

........ imaging & pointing out the specific flaws of their specimens, only tips them off to correct them.

And again, now with 3-D printers coming on the scene, it's going to be child's play to produce exact copies of originals - although recreating alloys may prove a challenge, or not.

Seeing as I bought its twin many moons ago...and being serious...at the first look at the firt pic without zooming in LOL! These Chinese fakes just have a "look" to them when you have studied them in depth.

I am not worried about it other than a lot of people will be fooled.

Daniel Carr said something I respect. It was something to the affect of no one can ever make a perfect copy of the coins already minted. There is no way to duplicate every little nuance and die mark perfectly. I guess he would be the one to know seeing if not for his overstrikes being of coins never made by the US mint, I think a lot of his work would easily get by slabbing companies as being legit. They don't have the time to look at each coin in that much detail. WHich is yet another argument for them legitimizing the process with AI!
