Ted Williams Coin Collection - Do we care?

#1 Unread post by Funky Strike »

The Funkmeister here again - back from another hunt!

This hunt had me near the Field of Dreams and I found a coin - several actually - labeled by NGC from the Ted Williams Collection.

This one is a 1926 D Mercury Dime - The coin is not in great shape - but it's from Teddy Ballgame's estate!

I thought this was a cool coin - Thinking about whether he really carried this coin around.

Do we care if a coin "belonged" to someone - especially someone famous?

Just wanted to hear your thoughts on it

As always - Thank You for your feedback!

Now back to the hunt!

Michael - The Funkmeister

You won't like my answer. :)

I have no idea who this guy is. it is only b/c of your description I can assume it has to do with baseball.

Because I spent all my time growing up with "friends" named Victor, Remington (sometimes Winchester), or Fenwick (sometimes Shakespeare [not literature}) depending on the season, I seriously would have trouble naming three professional teams for any game. I also have no idea the rules of basketball or football (and no interest to find out).

No, I may not know (or care really) what some famous person batting average is, but as my Dad always told me, if things went south and we had to fend for ourselves, those game guts won't keep people alive.

So I spent my time learning how to survive...I am very much at home in the great American wilderness.

Confession time. Since I had only three days max of wilderness camping at a time due to things like, you know, a job and responsibilities, I actually did baby myself out there. It always took a terribly long time to pack (tongue in cheek) b/c, besides the clothes on my back, I would take a hatchet with me.

I know...I was wimpy!😂

Different strokes for different folks!

I am glad you have the ability to appreciate your coin. A heartfelt congratulations!👍🏻

BTW...I am not totally without SOME understanding. When the first basketball Dream Team played, I was glued to the TV every game. When the tip top of the very best in any field gets THAT amazing, I don't care the subject, I want to see what actual BEST really means and I enjoy it tremendously.

That's what made Ted Williams so special as an American - He served in WW2 and then was called back to Korea where he could not only hit a baseball - but he could hit a MIG too!

He was Chuck Yeager's wingman in Korea!

So if the shooting started - I would like to be in a foxhole with this guy - A true American Badass! (And I'm a Yankee fan!) :-)

Thank you for this. THIS guy is a true American hero and now I plan on reading up on his military service!

Wow..Chuck Yeager!

And now that dime holds a lot more interest to me than if he had simply been a ball player. Definitely a treasure in my now-enlightened eyes!

Ted was from the generation were men were men (tough as nails) and men of his day never had to juice to make the numbers.
to the right collector the well known pedigree could bring in 10 to 20% premium IMO.
