I have a 1995 W 10th anniversary American Eagle Proof Set. This is the 5 piece set with the 1995 W Silver Eagle Proof coin. Would you send all 5 coins to be graded or just the Silver Eagle. I am really not sure if I want to break up the set or if it really matters. Then I ask myself should I send to PCGS or NGC? Thoughts.....

It's a personal choice BUT I wouldn't do it unless I was going to sell them off individually and even then . I personally like it as a set and would have No problem getting a handsome price for it if that's your future goal. Good Luck.

I am collecting to keep and get my kids involved and excited about old coins and their history. Mostly coins from the 1800's.

If your determined to sell it then sell it as a set! it's very rare to find complete sets and grading might ruin the value more then help. leave it up to buyer to decide on grading.. unless your 100% positive it will come back as 70's then just leave it ungraded. Danial might be intrested in it otherwise IMO this is something that great collections could sell. dealer or auction the fee's are about the same and your not going to have to get worried about getting stiffed on Ebay.

I agree I would keep it in the set, but that is just me.
I was wondering why you weree thinking of getting it graded? Since it seems you want to keep it, there is no real reason to have it graded.
I have seen some people say every better coin needs to be slabbed. But this is just b/c those same people enjoy slabs themselves (and think everyone else should as well).
There is no real absolute necessity (I did not say preference) to ever have a coin graded. Yes, a graded coin might bring a higher value when sold online, but a person has to do the math to see if grading costs (and other fees) to slab the coin will take enough out of potential profits to make it worth the gamble. The whole grading game is far from as simple as most people think, and a lot of people end up losing money sending in coins b/c they believe its just the thing to do.
I am NOT saying don't get coins slabbed. I am saying even people as knowledgeable as Daniel call slabbing a gamble. You have to really know what you are doing to use it to your advantage and not get (unintentionally) taken for a ride.
