My first Ty1 SLQ 1917 reasonable grade

#1 Unread post by Matthudson »

I know California, and Utah... I think.

Are there other states where it's legal to marry a coin? LOL!

This is it! She's the one. My very first after 40 years of collecting! Just over 50% of Grey Sheet (according to my sense of grading).
Rescued from a pawn shop on Main Street, USA!

I gave it an F15, I bid 30, ended up with 35.50 after taxes and shipping, and taxes on the shipping.

So the big mystery is, who decided in the redesign, "Well, we can recess the date so it won't wear off as fast, but something's gotta give in return - I know! That riveted shield! That could definitely wear down faster."

She may be freckled, but never cleaned! Very much "alive" in the color in person. Not a dead pigeon at all! I'd love to VF her, but the incomplete drapery under the sash holds me back. There are toes, but no belly button or roundness in the surrounding area. (Remember, these are graded differently! I'd love that shield on a nice 26-D or 27-S!)

You found her! As you will note, the the dots and dashes around the circumference are Morse Code for "Stolen From Earle42 - Please Return if Found."

Yes, it is a beautiful coin. I will be glad when she is back home. Thanks for finding her for me 😜
