1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). 1876-S Seated Quarter - The Butler Did It
Back at the turn of the former century, affluent collectors housed their coins in wooden cabinets, usually obverse up. They would periodically "groom" them by wiping the dust off with a cloth. If they were really well off, they would delegate this task to their household staff.
I believe this splendid quarter, snatched from circulation early in its life (but not before sustaining a minor nick on the rim) is one such case of so called "Cabinet Friction", or "Cabinet Rub". The reverse, it follows, shows no such signs of this periodic cleaning regimen. There's even a fair amount of cartwheel luster!
By the way, this is also where we get the term to "rub someone out". Stemming from the common practice of butlers systematically murdering innocent coins. (Hey! I'm old. I'm at the age where I get to make up crap!)
OH! By the way, I see doubling on the shield on the reverse. Is that of any particular interest?

Hey Matt , Nice non-problematic coin except for the ding. I do see what appears to be cleaning as well but not offsetting . Can you just try one thing ? Test out this program for better pics. >>> PhotoScape ( free DL, easy to use, crops, enlarges etc..) .

I have a pretty comprehensive photo editor now. What do you need that my picture isn't giving you? If it's resolution, then it's the camera - unfortunately, not a DLSR.
Although, I am going from 2376 pxl down to 1188 to save storage RAM on my computer. Is that it, perhaps?
Is this one sharper?

Matthudson: All the below may not apply to what you are doing. It is just a cookie cutter paste.
When posting photos of a coin you would like someone to look at, you NEED to post a Cropped photo of both the the full Obverse and Reverse. Try to take these photos as clear and close as possible. Next take some photos of the area in question, again as close and clear as possible. It would also help if you could find some way to point to the area in question or give a detailed explanation of what you want to be looked at. DO NOT just say "What Error is this?", "What do you think about this coin and what is the value?" or "What can you tell me about this coin?". We would happily provide you with sites you can research coin errors and varieties.
If you need a photo editing program, there are three free ones that come to mind. They are PhotoScape, Inkscape and Gimp. Of the three PhotoScape is the easiest to use. I use PhotoScape and it will do everything required to post photos on the board. Daniel explains quite well in the following two topics, POSTING PHOTOS plus his video on this same topic Daniels posting Coins Video on posting coins

The doubling on the reverse is part of the intended design
