1982 Lincoln Cent
Hello my husband and I are fairly new at coin collecting. We come across this 1982 and can not seem to find any information on any that look like this. If anyone can help us look in the right direction would be nice.
To us this looks to have a double edge on part of the rim. This is on both obverse and reverse sides.
We are do not know if this is considered double die or double strike (or if those are the same thing). We could be wrong.
Thanks to any information in advance!

Thank you. I don't know if it is worth anything. But being that we are fairly new at this, we think we will keep this one just because it looks different. Once again. Thank you for the help and information.

This is NOT an off center strike. It is a slightly misaligned (obverse-Hammer) dieSensibleSal66 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 10, 2021 4:22 am Hello. Welcome . This is a very slightly Off Center strike .

I don't know if these pictures will help. It does seem to be Sligh thicker on the side in question.

Re: 1982 Lincoln Cent
This thickness differential is indicative of a slightly skewed die...
What you are seeing on the reverse is "Reflect" due to the lighting angle that you have you used for imaging this coin

You can find a wealth of information if you spend some quality time at error-ref.com. There you will find types of legitimate errors as well as pictures to go with them. You can learn what collectable doubling is compared to other ways doubling happens that is not collectable.Nangellawson wrote: ↑Sun Oct 10, 2021 4:05 am Hello my husband and I are fairly new at coin collecting. Save Yourself time, effort, and disappointment...don’t learn the coin hobby backwards.
Looking for random anomalies on coins and hoping they match up to something collectable will take you a lot more time, wasted effort, and disappointment repeatedly finding out you have nothing but post mint damage.
Spend some initial time at places like error-ref.com, doubleddie.com, varietyvista.com, conecaonline.org, coppercoins.com etc. to find what actual and collectable coin errors look like.
A good way to start is, for instance, separate a bunch of pennies by date. Go to varietyvista.com and, date by date, use the reference there to see what errors are known for that specific coin/mint mark. Look for those specific errors/varieties using the pictures provided. After doing this for awhile you will KNOW what an actual error looks like and not have to waste time on face value and damaged coins.

Re: 1982 Lincoln Cent
Speaking of photos. Is there a good site or two in which they attempt to teach you about specifically photographing coins?

Re: 1982 Lincoln Cent
Thank you for all the information. It is greatly appriecated. I would guess that we are heading in the right direction. We do separate all our coins by decades and then by date when we look through them. I also have been to Wexler's, Error-ref, coppercoins websites. We will look into the others as well. We are not really expecting to find any miracle coin. We are just enjoying all the years and information on the coins themselves. Just looking into a hobby to do together. Thanks again for the information.Earle42 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 10, 2021 4:44 pmYou can find a wealth of information if you spend some quality time at error-ref.com.
