Is there a Mintmark? It's located above the date

Philly, San Fran, & Denver pieces do exist. But the 1914 Philly is the rarest.

The coin should weigh 33.40 grams & have a reeded edge for a genuine 90% Gold 1914 Double Eagle. Counterfeits exist though.

I do not see a mint mark anywhere. I will try to post a better picture soon. It does have stars on the side and the weight and size checks out. I am a PCGS Platinum member and was wondering of I should get it graded.
Something I don't know is there supposed to be a mint mark? The coin was purchased from California.

I would send it to PCGS, that would give you the answer. We can't 100% authenticate it here.

The Philly coins don't have a Mintmark, but the San Francisco (S) & Denver (D) coins feature one.

The most common date is the 1914-S, even though the photos are somewhat blurry, I can say that this could be a 1914 $20 Double Eagle.

If the weight & edge (Lettered with the motto e pluribus unum) matches, you could have a legit Gold Coin.

I'm not trying to say to grade it, I'll let the experts decide on this.

I would too if it's possibly a legit specimen after you check that (With the upmost care possible) is probably legit with weight & edge matches with the other examples.

Mintage of the 1914 $20 Double Eagles:
1914 95,250
1914-D 453,000
1914-S 1,498,000

The 1914 Philly Double Eagle is the rarest compared to the Denver & San Francisco Mints.

As is typical of fakes, a graphic overlay of this onto a legit specimen would likely tell if it is fake or not. But I cannot make an overlay without a much better photo. It must be clear and taken from exactly above.

Where overlays can run into problems is if there was more than one specific die design used in a year at the same mint.
