Re: 1652 pine tree shilling
I am still waiting for a question on the coin. Just posting an image is not how we ask members to do it.
Re: 1652 pine tree shilling
Why is the word copy printed on the coin? I need help identifying is it real or fake?

Re: 1652 pine tree shilling
Why is the word copy printed on the coin? It’s because it’s a copy and the manufacturer was ethical and didn’t try to pass it off as original. It is 100% a copy. See the rough surface in the blank fields of the coin. It has been cast from a mold. Also the color not correct.

Re: 1652 pine tree shilling
COPY is on the coin so the creator isn't charged with counterfeiting. The coin is not real so it is a fake, real ones don't have copy.

Re: 1652 pine tree shilling
A dead giveaway aside from the “COPY” mark are the blank areas in the fields of the coins. When looking at hammered coins, the blank areas can give just as much info as the portraits, writing and other details.
You will notice the rough “bumpy” nature of the blank areas on this coin. That is from the process of casting the coin and not hammering the flan between two dies. A hammered coin will exhibit a much smoother surface in these blank areas.
Also I would be willing to bet that this is made of pewter. The original is made of silver. Most cast coin reproductions are make from pewter because it’s so malleable.

Re: 1652 pine tree shilling
Look at the surface of the blank areas of the original to see what I am saying…
