1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). Please Help?? Black 2000D Quarter Fail? Quarter 2of 3
Here is my 2000D New Hampshire state quarter which is the second quarter that I have like this out of three. I am trying to figure out what is wrong with these quarters all from different years but bearing the same mint mark!

Re: Please Help?? Black 2000D Quarter Fail? Quarter 2of 3
No real way to know how each one got that way except to say MANY billions of coins exist, and billions more are made each year (BTW a billion seconds is 33.3 YEARS let that sink in ). What appears to be coincidence HAS to happen when using those kinds of numbers!
The weight is light b/c the corroded surfaces have lost metal (aka. the pitting).
What we have shared with you is from experience knowing how coins get to have the characteristics yours do. Nothing on your coins could possibly be made by anything in the minting process. It all is damage.
We see a lot of corroded coins, dryer coins, stained coins, hammered on coins, plated coins, severely scratched up coin, gouged coins, sanded coins, welded coins, plated coins, glued coins, altered coins, spooned coins, counterstamped coin etc.. Yours definitely show these exact characteristics.
And if that's not enough, I know of a little boy who used to go do this stuff himself on purpose to see what would happen. Grinding wheels, train tracks, intense heat, wire wheels, and a whole garage full of tools.etc. etc. To make matters worse, when he grew up (?) he continued his deviousness b/c in the chemistry classes he later taught he would put coins into nitric acid and dissolve them so his students could have a very good object lesson to remember which acid is used to dissolve metals
Common grading company shortcomings & resulting co$tly mi$take$ to collectors (using Kennedy No FG halves):

One coin per topic, they're all damaged the same and if one is damaged looking like this then all of them are damaged.
