Please Read Before Posting A Topic

In the title please put date, denomination and type of coin design and a brief on what you are asking about.
In example: "1995 Lincoln Cent Missing 5" or "2010 Roosevelt Dime With a Line inside the rim".

All of this helps discern the different topics from each other and is much less confusing to members who want to help.
Topic titles like "how did this happen" or "help" often get ignored and lost in the confusion.

Mis struck error quarter on nickel

#1 Unread post by derekc1984 »

I have had in my possession a mid strike coin quarter on nickel, however I cannot provide a date as you will see.
Weighed it first of course and took a pic of it as well. Let it be valuable hahaha.
Thanks danial for your YouTube channel it has been helpful.

Looks like a Nickel with the impression of a quarter squeezed on top ( Vise job ) and damage to the reverse as well.

Please note how the extra wording is backwards. This means a quarter was "pressed" onto the nickel.

Please note the flattened REV side.

This indicates either the quarter was on top of the nickel and it was hit with something heavy...flattening the REV of the nickel (and most likely the quarter's REV as well). Or the two were in a vice which also flattened their REV sides.

It looks like a vice job to me also. What makes me say that is this was really a dual denomination coin, you would not be able to the hair of George though Monticello. Which ever was the second die to strike this coin would be the dominate features. If you also look at where it says Liberty backwards, and does match up with the true liberty locations.

I also meant to mention George is facing the wrong direction - he is backwards also. Again, showing an impression made onto the surface of the nickel by a quarter and not the coin's metal being forced up and into a die's recesses at the mint.
