I agree with Daniel and the above. Please DO go to error-ref.com to save yourself time in the future by being able to identify things such as this.😊

Let me help you - and this is done nicely - to understand what this forum is.😊

The regulars here are NOT perfect and NOT omniscient. But we also are not guessing when we give an answer (unless we explicitly say we are guessing).

So when you get the same answer from several of the people here, and especially when one of them is Daniel who lives, eats, breathes, deals, sleeps, dreams about, and ponders coins in his every waking moment outside of God given family responsibilities, then you can pretty much bank on the answer being something we have seen many times.

In other words, how often have you questioned your mailman if their job is to deliver the mail? And then how many times have you also asked this of the USPS man and FEDEX man as well? After all, there is more than one person here very familiar with coins.

When you get an answer here, its probably 99% of the time safe to then approach your coin's anomaly from that angle.

Then if you want to run tests to verify the answer for yourself... a GOOD idea since it makes for a hand on educational learning experience...and you find something else odd, we will gladly help answer those questions as well.

For example, when testing out the answer we gave you above, you then decide to weight your quarter. You find the weight to be light and outside mint specifications. Then is the time to ask something like, "My quarter seems too light. Here is the weight: xxxxx. Any ideas why?"

But...assuming the light weight you just found is from a missing clad layer (despite being told yours is not) also is not wise at this point b/c there are other errors which can cause coins to be lightweight! 😊

Your coin is not missing a clad layer.

I would like to recommend to you some sites you can study.
Error-Ref and Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties
These two sites will help teach you about what a variety/error coin looks like. I cannot stress enough how important it is to not just read the sites but to study them in depth, until they are seared into your brain.
I also suggest that until you learn the above and what can and cannot happen to a coin at the mint. You need to stick to looking for known errors. You will find what the TPGs will recognize as varieties on the PCGS. This will save you a lot of time in having to take photos and then posting them, only to told it is not what you think. The last I am recommending is Glossary of Error Variety Terms. This last site will help understand the terms we use, also it will assist you in helping us, by being able to explain what you are seeing and why you think it is what you think.
