It may be something else, but if I am seeing what the pictures appear to be showing, then my opinion is some of the polishing compound used to polish dies (extending their life) was on the die as it struck this coin and the ones before and after it possible. I have seen a run of these where the "spot" gets smaller going through the roll as the compound is worn away as the die continues being used. As to value? I am surprised he offered 5.00...typically these (if that is indeed the cause) are face value coins.

I was thinking grease, but the straight line from the chin to the L made me think it was something
else. you are correct that some are much more , it kinda fades into the chin, I was hoping it was the other way that it was the beginning of a die break or something

Using your image here for attribution, this is what's called "Struck through Goop".....

"Goop", is a slurry of fine metal fragments from the striking of coins, and grease.

The lighting makes things hard to see.

I can clearly see what you are imaging...

Keep in mind that this "Slurry" is a very soft and malleable material, and will show very light contact & brush marks.

And that is what its about...fun!

BTW - something that will definitely help in coin searching is spending a lot of time on the following: error-ref.com.

Its a great site showing what legit errors are and makes it easier to define things like a "greaser" and legitimately collectible errors.
