1992 ddo

#1 Unread post by Windrider991 »

Greetings Dan and Team,
I found a 1992 D Lincoln cent while coin roll hunting, that has doubling on the obverse side of the coin. The doubling occurs in the date, Liberty, IGWT. I’m shootings through a 10X coin loop.
Has that ever been attributed before? I also found a second 92D with doubling on the obverse, bit it’s a bit less dramatic than this one. Thanks for any insights. Grade vs don’t grade, etc
Thanks for your help in this!
Blessings
Dan

Plating disturbance caused by die deterioration and very common on 1992 cents.

I just wanted to encourage you to delve deeper into the " error world". First, coin collecting is a life long learning experience. With that said, so are the errors. We have it so good compared, let's say 30 year's ago.

There is so much info to look at on the internet.. books etc. I'm thankful for guys like Daniel, who has looked at probably millions of coins; repetition is key. What do you gain by looking at millions of coins over 30-40 years....it's easy to spot the errors.

For me, I'm still learning as well. When I first started, I wish I'd of gotten the resources before hand....just my 2 cents. Enjoy the hobby!!

Save Yourself time, effort, and disappointment...don’t learn the coin hobby backwards. 😊

Looking for random anomalies on coins and hoping they match up to something collectable will take you a lot more time, wasted effort, and disappointment repeatedly finding out you have nothing but post mint damage.

Spend some initial time at places like error-ref.com, doubleddie.com, varietyvista.com, conecaonline.org, coppercoins.com etc. to find what actual and collectable coin errors look like.

A good way to start is, for instance, separate a bunch of pennies by date. Go to varietyvista.com and, date by date, use the reference there to see what errors are known for that specific coin/mint mark. Look for those specific errors/varieties using the pictures provided. After doing this for awhile you will KNOW what an actual error looks like and not have to waste time on face value and damaged coins.😊
