Ooooh, it’s rare enough for a common denomination to have a cud error, what’s the odds for a type coin to have it? Very nice!

I went through your post like "Where's the CUD?? OH, there it is, my goodness!" That's a nice one. I never knew 3-cent coins existed until I started down the coin hobby rabbit hole last week. Such a weird coin, but I guess in the 19th century it would have made total sense.

They exist because back then, they got three cent stamps, and this denomination was designed to work with that.CoinPyro wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 10:50 pmI went through your post like "Where's the CUD?? Sorry, this is misinformation. What you said has no correlation to why cuds are found on coins. They exist because back then, they got three cent stamps, and this denomination was designed to work with that.
I think looking up "cud" at error-ref.com might be needed here

Well, I was just trying to explain to user coin pyro why the three cent piece existed. To correct that, I will also explain why cuds exists.Earle42 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 26, 2021 4:19 pmSorry, this is misinformation. Coins were struck by dies, and when dies are used, sometimes they break, a whole piece of the die would break off. And when the next planchette was struck by the broken die, the metal on the part which the die broke was not struck, creating a excessive piece of metal on the coin, which is what’s called a cud error.
