1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). The FS-25-1964D-502 is a "Misplaced Mintmark" and not a RPM

Paul, can you help me understand why this is not just machine doubling on the mint mark? It has the characteristics of a flattened "doubled" area as well as the mint mark itself having diminished width.
I know the examples of a misplaced mintmark at error-ref.com show a completely different letter D in a completely different, and wrong location, rather than one being on top of the other.
@Blondebear
Please do not post pictures of your screen from now on. They pixellate and have interference patterns in them that, when we zoom to look at the coin, can hide pertinent details. Just take a screenshot and upload that instead.
In this case not much detail was needed needed to give an answer, so I did not lock the topic. Thank you!

I'm 100% POSITIVE that I did not mention anything about machine doubling......
Using the images posted here, this appears to be neither an RPM or a
Misplaced Mint Mark

@Earle42 the image for the mint mark is from my microscope, and the other two of the coin are from my phone. So I'm not totally sure what you mean....

@Paul,
I didn't say you had diagnosed this as MD, I asked you what makes this a Misplaced Mint Mark instead of being MD?
My initial look at the mint mark seems to show it has the main indicators of MD. And when looking at the definition of Misplaced Mint Mark, I am not understanding how the info at error-ref.com matches the circumstances on the OP's coin?
Please let me know what I am missing.

Earle, I think Paul just went and looked up 1964-D FS 502 and it came up as a misplaced mint mark, and he felt the need to share it in this post, he didn’t say this coin is the one with the misplaced mint mark error. The original author of the post has provided us with the wrong information.Earle42 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 7:18 pm @Paul,You said:I'm 100% POSITIVE that I did not mention anything about machine doubling......Please go back and read my post again.The FS-25-1964D-502 is a "Misplaced Mintmark" and not a RPM

Many thanks for the clarification. Sometimes I cannot see the forest for the trees
