I stated from the beginning that I am completely new to this and I don't know exactly what questions to ask. I used the example in the forum rules and apparently I am still wrong. Instead of this site being a help and teaching tool to me, I am constantly put down for not knowing correct terminology, how I should not be posting since I don't know what I'm looking at etc. Daniel, I love watching your videos so I will just continue that and leave this site alone. Thanks

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!

From your pictures posted here, your coin appears to have a die crack over the top of the head,
& I believe what you're seeing on the date, is a simple plating issue.

While in this case you indicated in the title the line and ear were what you were wanting looked at, you are coming in at a time when we had a lot of people ignoring how to post here, and wrongly formatted posts made for our members to have to visit and revisit the same threads over and over while trying to coax out enough data for us to help.

Our members were recently admonished by Daniel to make sure people stuck to the rules to alleviate the problem. Thus the reminder to post according to rules was made.

Your title described what is on the coin and is a good formatted title. But...sometimes people just show us coin and do not have a question.

While in this case it could be inferred you were likely asking about the marks mentioned in the title, we do have people who post odd stuff just to share it with others.

So next time just type a question as to the purpose of your post. In this case something to the effect of, "Can anyone tell me what this line is above Lincoln'd head, and is this legitimate doubling on the ear?"

Yes, it takes a tiny bit more time to make sure the post's intent is easily recognizable, but remember the members here are taking their own free time to help other collectors as well.😊
I am constantly put down for not knowing correct terminology,
Also please do not take brevity in answers as a negative towards you. I can only speak for myself, but I spend quite a few hours a day on this forum to help people. That is b/c I take the time to thoroughly explain things. Not everyone has that time. Please do not equate brevity with negativity.😊

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain how and what I am supposed to be doing. I have a better understanding of how to post now. I will ask a question going forward. I have so many coins that I have collected for decades just because. I never paid any attention to anything on them. I am now. Thanks again and I hope I can be better at this.

BTW - here is a bit more help for looking through all those coins

Save Yourself time, effort, and disappointment...don’t learn the coin hobby backwards. 😊

Looking for random anomalies on coins and hoping they match up to something collectable will take you a lot more time, wasted effort, and disappointment repeatedly finding out you have nothing but post mint damage.

Spend some initial time at places like error-ref.com, doubleddie.com, varietyvista.com, conecaonline.org, coppercoins.com etc. to find what actual and collectable coin errors look like.

A good way to start is, for instance, separate a bunch of pennies by date. Go to varietyvista.com and, date by date, use the reference there to see what errors are known for that specific coin/mint mark. Look for those specific errors/varieties using the pictures provided. After doing this for awhile you will KNOW what an actual error looks like and not have to waste time on face value and damaged coins.😊
