Mint mark error 1994 “DOUBLE D” Stamped Liberty Roosevelt Dime.

#1 Unread post by Dezzicakes89 »

I found a double “D” Stamped 1994 dime?!?! So the original “D” is where it normally would be on a regular dime, but the excitement is because the EXTRA D STAMP is connected the the first “D” but at the very top and at the left top corner of the “D” and the back flat part of the “D” is perfectly on the flat bottom part of Rosevelts neck. And is correctly facing the way a regular “D” should go instead of flipped. But it’s like if you had a pair of sicorrs and the inner part of them ✂️ is how the two “D” are connected and touching Rosevelts bottom part of his head/neck

Okay after reading what you said a few times, I think I might know what's going on here. I see what looks like a "die chip" above the "D" mintmark. Also, can you get a better and closer Pic of the Mintmark ? Just to correct you, coins are "Struck" not Stamped. Thanks

Could you post a close up next time? This way it's almost impossible to see...

NO mint mark errors after 1989, the mint stopped hand punching the mint mark into the dies in 1989. So this is either damage, or a common die chip. One thing to learn fast in coin searching is to NEVER jump to conclusions.

This is not an RPM or MMM.

Your image appears to show a small amount of extra metal in that area.
