1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). No. Not so fast. Weigh it? Can we see it closer up? Pic. of the Reverse? Try this......Crop, adjust lighting and size by using a program called PhotoScape.

Re: 1972 Double Die Lincoln cent
It definitely looks doubled, but in such bad condition I would just put it in a 2 x 2 and save it.

Need to see better images. Did you look up the values for a circulated example?

Your pictures remind me of the fake one on this thread:
https://www.coincommunity.com/forum/top ... _ID=368594
The Chinese used to sell them weathered like this. How do I know? I almost bought one (2.00) to study.
Scroll the thread down to find closeup detail pictures of a real one to compare with yours.

Re: 1972 Double Die Lincoln cent
Sorry I did not mean to make it sounds like you knew it was a fake.
I was simply saying it looks like the fake ones I have seen before.
But finding it in a bank roll will not guarantee it is authentic. Banks do not check coins for authenticity.
We have people post to the forum who have found fakes in bank rolls before (been there, done that). Do people put fakes in rolls deliberately to mess with other peoples' minds? Do other people buy fakes and then accidentally spend them so the fakes end up in bank rolls? We don't know.
In half dollar rolls form the bank I have found two headed magician's coins, magicians' coins used for the magic trick called Scotch and Soda, Panama 1/2 Balboa coins, British pennies (same size as a US half), gold plated halves, advertising tokens, and free beer tokens.
If you will use the easy method in the picture I posted further up in this thread to get some better pics, it won't be hard to tell if yours is legitimate or not. There is no company you could pay to slab it for you as legitimate b/c they will catch it right away (they pride themselves on this and are good at it)...but you will still be stuck with paying their fees!
I know I am not the only one who would be happy for you if it is a legitimate one. But a lot of fakes are out there.

How can you tell if you have a fake coin what would be different for the real one

Re: 1972 Double Die Lincoln cent
Fake coins are NEVER perfect.
If the weight is correct, and the size is correct, then the details are not.
When I say details, I mean the very small things such as the shape of the inside of the holes in a letter B. Sometimes letters will have missing serifs they should have had. Sometimes the position of a word is slightly off (slanted, too far left/right or up/down). Other tests are an overlay of a verified coin can be made onto the coin in question and the differences in design and positioning will show.
There are other methods for even better copies, but the above are normally enough. In fact the overlay method is not always needed before the coin can be identified as a fake.
I remember Big Tree Company out of China was selling normal looking 1972 DDO reproductions, some that were off center, and some that had the weathered look like yours and the other one I posted a link to.
I am NOT saying your, for certain, is a fake. I am saying since I have seen fakes which have the same weathered look as yours, it is possible yours could be a fake.
But until you can post some in focus pictures, I cannot help you anymore. The ones you posted are not clear enough. Here is the graphic to take easy & clear pics of it. Using the camera's timer and using the cap under the coin forces the pictures to be in focus when the picture is taken.

Re: 1972 Double Die Lincoln cent
I once found several 1972 Pennies each in several Customer wrapped rolls, but none of them were the 1972 DDO
