A 'CLEAR' S OR: How clear has an S to be?

#1 Unread post by excoin »

Hello everybody! In my search for unbelievable findings, I came across this
1972 S - penny and I wondered if it comes close to being a 'clear 'S or not.
Can anybody help me out in this?

Looking at the close up of the date I tend to seeing doubling in the date.
Or is this a matter of bad lighting?
I hope someone can help me... And tanx a lot!

Greetings from Eva (Holland)

The “clear” and “filled” S mint mark is for 1979 and 1981 proof coins. (I could be mistaken). As for doubling, I will leave to the experts here to address.

All that you're seeing is normal for a 1972 Cent, the vast majority of them will show some doubled features on the 2 as well, but they're very common to find.
