2019 1c Doubled or Mechanical?

#1 Unread post by Califalex »

Please take a look at what might be my first "confident" doubled die.
As you suggested I have checked 5 websites to find this variety with no success, which can only mean it's not a doubled die or it's undocumented.
As I am so new, I've tried to identify the class but having difficulty - pivot? offset?
As you'll see from the photos, I believe it is both on the obv and rev.
If it is a DD, I'd love to hear your opinion of where to get it certified as it's not worth getting graded.

It's not a doubled die, this is mechanical doubling.

To Daniel -
And to think I was going to give you an idea about how to explain mechanical errors using a cookie cutter analogy...
I was the one who said the 2 in the 1982 pennies looked like a swan after watching your video.
The date on this one threw me because it looked like there were 3 layers.

An important thing to remember from the 2nd picture is MD thins the original width of the devices. If you would compare the thinned devices on yours to those on a normal coin, it will be easier to know for sure.😊
