Why is this penny magnetic?

Hi all. I found something odd today and thought I'd find out what it is. This 1948 cent is slightly magnetic (as shown in the picture). It doesn't have quite as strong a pull that 43 steel cents do though. Maybe half as much? Unfortunately, I don't have a scale that is accurate enough weigh it. Any idea's what this is?

It's either plated or a counterfeit.

As stated, this coin has been plated and plated in zinc from the looks of it.

I agree, this coin has a foreign substance on it surfaces.

The plating is magnetic.
