1944 P Walking Liberty - Possible Die Cracks

#1 Unread post by GAcoinnut »

1944 P walking Liberty shows small cut on rim, on reverse the Epluribus appears to have crack horizontally. Also, whats up with his right foot looks like an extra toe (could be wrong here) and on obverse under right arm looks like it could be another Liberty partial lettering. Could be wrong here but the '44 are 2 different 4's. Opions/thoughts are welcome. Would you recommend sending in for grading?

The coin is circulated and all you're seeing is the result of circulation wear and hits, so normal.

Welcome
No on the grading question.

All I see here are contact marks/metal deformation from circulation, and a minor lamination on the reverse.

No, reading and looking at the images on places like error-ref.com is more conducive to learning than just asking questions about anomalies on coins. No college or trade course is taught without books and resources to study.

Save Yourself time, effort, and disappointment...don’t learn the coin hobby backwards. 😊

Looking for random anomalies on coins and hoping they match up to something collectable will take you a lot more time, wasted effort, and disappointment repeatedly finding out you have nothing but post mint damage.

Spend some initial time at places like error-ref.com, doubleddie.com, varietyvista.com, conecaonline.org, coppercoins.com etc. to find what actual and collectable coin errors look like.

A good way to start is, for instance, separate a bunch of pennies by date. Go to varietyvista.com and, date by date, use the reference there to see what errors are known for that specific coin/mint mark. Look for those specific errors/varieties using the pictures provided. After doing this for awhile you will KNOW what an actual error looks like and not have to waste time on face value and damaged coins.
