I've heard that if you put a Zinc Cent into a certain acid, the acid will remove the zinc coating . . . I can't confirm if it's a missing Zinc coating error, I'll let the Experts decide on this . . .

It looks like a science project coin. Soaked into some caustic substance. For those saying some they think that something removed the Zinc coating that is not true. All coins after 1982 (plus some in 1982) are Copper coated Zinc thus it would be the copper being removed.

Hydrochloric acid can literally dissolve the Zinc on the coin, all that is left after that is the Copper bearing the Image of the Coin

@Iceresistance The trouble with this theory is it is not the Zinc core that is missing. In reading the article you mentioned is "Hydrochloric acid (HCl), known in the hardware store as muriatic acid, is sold for cleaning concrete. But it will also dissolve the zinc core of a penny, leaving a foil of copper roughly a thousandth of an inch thick bearing the original image of the coin"
You do not have the Zinc core missing you have the copper platting missing. You should re-read the article.

I read it wrong, there is is an Acid (Not Hydrochloric) that are strong enough to clean the coin, but too weak to eat away the copper surface on 1982 & before Pennies (Citric Acid)

But I'm not sure which one caused this specimen to be like this . . .

Nitric acid will dissolve the copper and many other metals.

Sulfuric, hydrochloric and Acetic acid (think ketchup!) will clean copper to an unnatural white-ish copper look.

Very dilute hydrochloric (yup, the cement eater when concentrated) is what makes nose drops work their magic!
Common grading company shortcomings & resulting co$tly mi$take$ to collectors (using Kennedy No FG halves):
