Does this look like a date over a date?

#1 Unread post by MLinzee »

Good Morning/Afternoon...

I am EXTREMELY new to this so please bear with me. I was checking out some old coins left to me and I found this beat up old 1921 D Morgan silver dollar. My eye is not trained or experienced enough to decisively say this is a date over a date. Could someone have a look at this and give your honest opinion on this coin, please?

Many Thanks and I Appreciate Your Help!

Nice close up of the photo. They can be hard to get a steady shot at that range. From the shot you provided, I see what you are looking at, and I would think the same thing at first. I was unfamiliar with any overdates on the 1921-D, so I looked in Cherrypickers Guide and went to NGC's variety plus website looking for a known overdate. Couldn't find one.

Don't have a good answer from just one photo what it might be - could just be a well placed scratch and shadow combination.

Good luck!
Scott

Yes, this old gal has been around the block more than once...Here's another shot of the entire date, if that helps.
