1902 Liberty Head $2.5 Gold Coin Error?

Hello I recently a 1902 liberty Head $2.5 Dollar Gold Coin. There is a visible piece of gold slag on top of the coin. Has anyone seen this before or know what it is??

Perhaps is was a pendant at some point in its past, and this is a remnant of where the loop was attached for a chain? Purely speculation...

looks like it was hanging on a necklace at some point. It is exactly where they would have attached it.
