Minor 1955 DDO

#1 Unread post by claudewill1 »

Hi,
I came across the following which I believe is the Coppercoins 1955-1DO-008 or WDDO-009. The doubling on this one is found on BERTY in Liberty:
I updated the post with a clearer image of BERTY

👍👍👍

At this point, you might consider chasing after much higher grade uncirculated red coins

I think that he came across this not long before posting & checked it to see if it's the 1955 DDO & found the minor variety.

If you ignore what appears to be machine doubling on the top of the Y's right arm, the doubled areas under the letters in Liberty do look like -008. To be sure, match up all of the markers listed on that sire for this DDO.

Of all the posters on this forum, I believe he's caught on the quickest...

Just trying to lead him to the next step of not fooling around with "Lower or Midgrade" coinage

One thing I always do is take the time to do research on different varieties, I use multiple sources to help me identify different varieties. I am starting to move into VAMs for Morgans as well.

On the note of resources, I have the newest edition of the Cherry pickers guide per-ordered. Originally it was supposed to come out this past summer, but it got pushed back.

There's around 15 or so DDOs for this date but only one is the valuable example, but still fund to find the DDO's.

@Daniel, that's the main reason I do it is for fun. It would be nice to find a more valuable variety. Until then I'll just keep going through these. Occasionally I come across semi key dates. I have found a few more valuable varieties in the past like a 1941 DDO FS-102.

if I ever had the money, I have a source where I can get full sealed mint bags by dates for wheat cents. Some of the cents I get in what I can source right now are 'higher" quality and in some cases red. I just haven't found many finds on those. I did find a cherry pickers guide variety on a red 1955-S a while back.
