I found a handful of these and just getting around to posting them. I completely accept these as Mint Errors, and this one, as are the others, is dramatic. I can see why some people have begun collecting them.
Also, it appears there's part of another D inside the D, so looks like a weak RPM.

1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). I collect the dramatic examples..but have run into opposition from the "experts"..telling me they are nothing but damage. The way I see it, any error or variety is technically damage so I don't understand the big resistance...but let me tell you there is some strong resistance.

Re: Text Book Strike Doubling
I already know and why I made the statement I made. My argument is capped dies, struck on feeder finger, strike thru's, etc. are all damage, but was a mistake at the mint thus a mint error. I don't consider them varieties, but some mint errors do cross both lines.Maineman750 wrote:I collect the dramatic examples..but have run into opposition from the "experts"..telling me they are nothing but damage. I think the resistance is because too many people have mistaken or tried to sell machine doubling, and other forms like abraded die doubling, as true doubled dies. So, they call is machine damaged doubling or whatever so to differentiate the two and machine doubling got a bad name as a result.

Here's a textbook example! It's in The Cherrypicker's Guide!
this is my coin, I paid 18 cents for it at a show to fill a hole, and later noticed the doubling.
Not a great investment, but interesting.

I like work; it fascinates me.
I can sit and look at it for hours.
