#1 Unread post by Andrew1963imp »

1998 D Nickel that weighs 4.88 Grams . When should be 5 Grams. That's 1.2 grams under that's way to much. Anyone have any idea what is going on with it to of not weigh what a normal nickel should. ?? I when weight another just to show the scale is 100% percent properly working as it should.

I know that all U.S. nickels (5-cent pieces) minted since 1965 weigh 5.000 grams (0.176 ounces). U.S. nickels have a diameter of 21.21 mm, a thickness of 1.95 mm, and copper (75%) and nickel (25%). I said it's tough because I have such a coin that weighs only 4.00 grams. This seemed out of the ordinary to me, for I had never heard of such anomalies. I even used kg to lbs conversion to see if I was right, and yes, the coin weighed only 4 grams. I like to collect coins, and when I go on trips, I look for them from every country. I am an archaeologist, and with my team, I always get some relics.

Not tough at all, it's within weight tolerances so it is normal.
