Hi everybody, my name is Bill. I am old and in the process of disposing of my coins.
I am a subscriber to Daniel’s Youtube channel and have learned a great deal from it. Thanks Daniel!!
In a recent video Daniel talked about getting expert opinions, as opposed to thinking that all coin dealers have expertise in all areas. This video spoke to me.
I have a scarce Seated Liberty half dollar that came back from PCGS as Unc-Details-Cleaned. This coin is a good date within the series, so it has value in spite of the cleaning. The trouble is, I have no idea how much value. I’ve seen various rules of thumb that suggest pricing it at MS 60, or down two grades, or half the price of a problem free specimen - or whatnot. These rules of thumb leave me with values that are all over the place.
So, what I’m wondering is, how would I find a person who has expertise in this particular coinage, who could get beyond rules of thumb and be more specific about how I should price this coin and go about disposing of it. I am willing to pay for an expert opinion.

Re: Introduction
You take 10 sold auctions, use the most recent, then add the total of each together then divide that number by the 10. This will give you the average price to put on the coin as far as what it sells for. However, if you're asking for an exact value on a cleaned coin there's no one who can give that to you or figure that out.
You didn't mention the date or provide images and the appearance is very important to how much it sells for. My video wasn't about coin values it was about varieties and errors for particular coins, some people just know the Capped Bust Half Dollar varieties better than most and the same goes for Morgans and such, but any expert, or even novice, can determine the average sale price of a coin.

Got it. Thank you, and I understand your point: Experts in a particular series are for making technical determinations, such as varieties. Markets are for putting prices on things. That’s an important difference, and I didn’t get it.
I’ve looked at auction prices. Averaging prices doesn’t work very well in this, as grades are key to prices and this coin is merely “Unc”, no net grade. I did find one relatively recent comparison - Unc-details-cleaned - and that’s what I’ll have to go by. I’ll just have to shop the coin. It’s an 1875CC, a decent date for the series.
