Hello all!
I have been a coin collector since the mid 1980’s. A frIend got me started. My favorite coin series is the Walking Liberty Half. I managed to collect a short set of fairly well matched MS-63 to MS-64 coins. I also collected Mercury Dimes and completed a set all dates and mint marks. Started a Silver Proof Eagle collection. I would also buy coins that struck my fancy at coin shows in the area. Kind of stopped when PCGS appeared. I lost my feel for what was happening and got interested in other things.
This year I had to go through the odd coins that were in my parents possession since I was the only coin collector in the family. I was surprised that there were so many foreign coins in their possession. It took some time to even identify coins and their current value! This rekindled my interest in collecting.
I am trying to get a handle on spotting Double Dies. I watched Daniel’s video on the subject and have been going through MANY wheat Penny’s and when I see thickening, I also think coin is just worn making it difficult for me to identify. I have several poor man’s 1955 Double Dies that are clearly worn dies, so I can spot that.
Cold winter days and nights are made for searching for a errors.
