1970-S Uncirculated Lincoln Cent that looks damaged.

#1 Unread post by mittheman »

A few months ago, I purchased a Lincoln Cent bundle which included the items I have posted. I was looking at them through the scope and noticed the 1970-S looks like it has damage in the word LIBERTY. It is sealed in plastic so the photos may not be that good. It doesn't look that bad until you see it under the scope. Does anyone know who packages sets like these? One of the coins in these sets is the 2017-S Enhanced Uncirculated that was minted for the 225th anniversary of the mint. The Red book doesn't say how many of those were minted. Is there any way I can find out?

Even coins in US mint cents can show damage. But yours are not from the US mint since they contain coins from multiple years. Some third party took some circulated S mint coins and put them in this set.

Coins are minted and ejected into huge bins. They fall onto and mar each other.

As to 2017-S mintage, I would do an internet search.

I agree with Earle. There are a lot of people who will take coins put them onto their own holders i.e.. Cardboard holders for the Westward Jurney nickels. Making it look like it was something special and charging extra, when you could put together the same coins for half the price.
