Post your Lincoln cent album/collection!

#1 Unread post by JTCC »

Greetings, community. As we know, Lincoln cents are a pretty good series of coins to collect, some of us may have started their entire collecting hobby from LWC’s! (Including me) I’m still trying to complete a full set of uncirculated Lincoln cents, made some good progress at this point, only one hole left, the infamous ‘09 S-V.D.B. So, if you will, show us your collection, just for the fun of it. :D exited to see beauties my fellow collectors have! :)

I unfortunately do not have access to my coins at the immediate moment, but I will post them when I do.

P.S. hopefully this does not violate the one coin per post rule, but there’s no questions asked here, so I don’t know..... I will willfully correct/delete post if it does violate rules. I understand, rules are rules. no ban pls :(

I finally got access to my book and photographed it! Here it is. Enjoy. :)
Many coins in this book is about XF-AU, which is nice, but working towards a complete BU set.

I apologize for not so very good images.

I haven't taken pictures of the big book/newer years. I should... but this was my father's. He passed away when I was very young but this little book is a small part that I have left of him and cherish. Unfortunately it's all I have left of his collection. I helped a girl out week of this last Christmas and she stole mine and his collection. I stupidly let my daughter (who also loves coins) show her the collection and I didn't put it back myself. My daughter left it out that night. No girl, no coins the next morning.

But... an optimistic point of it is... my daughter and I have been spending more time together looking through and building new coin books etc... we will never have the money to replace the older etc... ones but... are happy to grab some bank rolls when we can and look through. Im.a billiard tech and just bought my first 14 tables so quarters will be pouring in lol fingers crossed for some treasures.

I'm in a bit of a financial slump at the moment, so buying and selling expensive coins is gonna have to wait.

In the mean time, I finally sat down and started sifting, sifting, sifting through 20 folders of wheat pennies (sacrilegious terminology!) that my great-grandmother left behind to her daughter. Around the same time about 16 years ago, my grandmother and her sister-in-law passed within months of each other. I got the folders, and shoeboxes, and purses, and jars full of "wheaties". It's as if my great-grandma started setting coins aside in the early 30s and then stopped to raise a family before resuming. Lots of nice VF - AU teens and twenties. And then the 1930s she collected obviously came later, in the early 50s as the higher grades were rarer - then BAM! uncs starting in the late 30s through the 50s.

After a couple months of meticulous tinkering (they all got the acetone; some of the transformations were small miracles!), I have finished the "definitive" set! The "Best of the Best". 8 whole rolls of rejects went either to the bank for deposit, or my LCS for sale. Another 8 or so are the "keepers" I'll use to put back into the folders and sell as sets - just nicely matched, and not all willy-nilly like they were originally.

Got a pretty nifty VF+ Barber dime with the proceeds from 3 of the rolls! Also, a very generous discount on a stray leftover Dansco album! This is my "legacy set" in their honor. The rest get SOLD!! No MORE WHEAT PENNIES!! Arrrrrrgh!!!!

Not to brag, but I'm gonna brag... (Relax! The '09-s VDB is a copy!) Just that sense of completion; such a wonderful feeling!

About 8-10 are store-bought. Not a lot of naturally occurring early S mints. We lived in the east and coins didn't travel all too far back then. I know they did like to go to Vegas in the 50s, 60s; she had some well circulated slot machine Morgans - mostly 1921.

Oh. That’s unfortunate. still, finding the 2/10 in circulation is still something.... better than me, only one coin in my book is found in circulation, the 1958-D in unc condition.

I remember as a kid almost trembling with excitement finding an S on a coin. Well, outside of '68-70 S nickels (though I saved each one and still have them!).

I spent June to November of last year on chemo and in and out of the hospital for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. I was finally in the clear as of January this year. In March of this year, I decided to get myself back into coin collecting and started hunting penny boxes. These are what I have found in just a few short months. I don't have the Dansco Album, but I do have these for 1941 to 1974 and 1975 to 2013. Here's what I have so far. I also have a lot of teens, 20's and 30's put back and I plan to buy an album for those as soon as I have the 41 to 74 completed. Only need six more.

Ok, nice! :D
Every coin minted in Philadelphia in my book is XF/up, with quite a few uncirculated examples. Every single coin from 1934/up is MS-RD. Still working on getting higher grade early teens with mint marks, making progress.
Just noticed something, the 1914-D slot in your book is filled with a 1925-D cent, why though? :?

You have been posting some killer cents!

My Wheat set is circulation-found by my grandfather (I will be 60 in November).

So there are very few cents in the set even having luster on them, and my 1914-D is a cull.

But I hate upgrading the set b/c al of them represent his enjoyment in hunting them down to fill those old Whitman albums.

He found everything (1922 included) except a 31-S and 55 DDO. I bought him the 1931-S in 1975.

I am guessing maybe sometime in the future I will need Daniel to find me a 55 DDO.

He found the 09-S and the S-V.D.B too? Nice!

Jeez, what’s with me upgrading the 1910-P cent? :? :? :?
Got this little piece today, got some fingerprint/few specks of corrosion on the obverse, but who cares? It’s a red unc! :D
