Wilma Mankiller quarter clashed die

#1 Unread post by SASBRIG14 »

 Hey,
Clashed die error Wilma Mankiller 2022P. I have figured the one by his mouth is part of the star. The one by his ear is the fringe from her shawl. I have know idea what is on the bridge of his nose. I found two in one roll. Let me know what you think.

Welcome to the community. Nice find! We call stuff like this clashed dies, not class die.

Thank you for this picture. Everything matches up perfectly. It is clashed die. I am excited I found it. There is part of the star coming off by his chin and her hair by In God We Trust

I really wouldn't get too far ahead of yourself. 99.9% of the time if you have what appears to be clash marks on the detail then it is not a clashed die. You need to understand how one is formed, and what parts of the Dies are affected, and which are not. A clashed Die happens when hammer die comes into contact with the anvil die. If they strike hard enough an impression of the Obverse will be left on to the Reverse Die and Reverse Die onto Obverse. That is the basic simple explanation. This is knowing how Dies are made comes into play. On the working Die all the Details are incuse. With this in mind, when the two dies make contact, the contact will be on what would turn to being the field. The contact is not hard enough to have the impression go all the way down to where the details are. This is just the basics. To explain it completely could take up pages.

Paul still needs the photo with the Revers in a mirror.
