I am not disagreeing with you when I ask this and I only ask because I do not know. If that is not doubling then what is it? I understand that true doubling involves extra material on the coin and this does not have that. So what is it? Also the missing letters is that because of a dirty die or some grease or some form of foreign matter getting between the plantchet and the press? Thank you for taking the time to look at my query. Have a blessed day.

This is spot on. I have this scope just to play around with with the kids and I’m a big kid too. Just yesterday I realized how badly they’ll fool you. I stuck a dime under it and it looked like large sections of the date were missing. I looked at the dine with a loupe and nope. Very normal coin. Put it back under the scope and it appeared to have chunks of date missing. No matter how you turned the dime. Weird and definitely the wrong tool for the inexperienced. ……… still fun though. Lol

1.
If you go to error-ref.com and search for these topics, you will find a good description of what they are and how to tell them apart.
2. The missing details on the coin are likely from a grease filled die. At error-ref.com search for the term "struck through grease" to find their entry on this.
3. And...some extra help

The main two types of non-collectable doubling are die deterioration doubling and machine/strike doubling. On cents after 1982, the plating can also cause problems to make the design look doubled. It's a bit hard to tell from the lighting, but I think I see traces of all three on this penny. If that is not doubling then what is it?
