1976 D PENNY - machined damage or human

#1 Unread post by Theshoefreak »

Hello again,
I didn't post correctly last night so I watched video and I guess my subject was not descriptive enough to find. This baby boomer might have to turn them over to someone in family.

Another big help for you will be to watch the (short) videos on how coins are made. The more a collector knows about the minting process, the easier to figure out if a coin is post mint damage or a mint error.

This question is not a disguised insult, but a genuine question.
Shouldn’t the fresh copper be a clear sign of PMD or have there been cases where errors will color/tarnish differently?

Fresh metal showing is normally going to be recent damage/impact/scrape. Although sometimes removing a substance from the surface can show where the substance actually preserved them metal from oxidation (oops..."toning :D).
